01 / Overview

Google Payments, was tasked with updating the experience for Google-related online payments. This involved a refresh and redesign of existing components — such as form fields, buttons, and container cards. We then applied the new design language to various online payment flows. I worked closely with other designers to help create the updated checkout flow for Google Store.

02 / Building the foundation

I collaborated with several designers to create new components that were incorporated into the pattern library. I also created spec documentation for developers to use.

03 / ITERATIONS AND USER TESTING

The components were vetted by the design team through several rounds of design reviews. Once we thought the components were at a good spot, we began incorporating them into the various online checkout flows. I worked alongside another lead designer to help redesign and improve the Google Store checkout experience.

We created prototypes for different checkout tasks to be tested during usability testing. And we worked alongside researchers to gather important information from the study, such as pain points, any confusing elements, and any blockers that prevented the users from completing the various tasks. I got to participate in the usability testing by watching the testing live, and asking follow up questions to the users,

With the information that we gathered, we made updates to the design. We then reviewed with the design team and engineering team to get approval and finalized the designs. From there, we created specs for engineers (including accessibility specs), and handed the documentation to the developers to implement.

04 / NEW AND IMPROVED

Here is the final flow, which is now live online on the Google Store website.
